Hi, I’m Sandra—founder of Lá Cookie Rookie and a lifelong lover of all things sweet, creative, and kid-centered!

My cookie journey began unexpectedly in a preschool classroom, where I’ve spent over 20 years shaping little hearts and minds. One special day, a parent volunteered to help the kids decorate cookies dipped in royal icing. I was immediately drawn to the art of it—we chatted, I asked questions, and a spark was lit. I tucked the idea away for a while... until 2019, when I stumbled across a cookie decorating video. The decorator ended her tutorial by saying, “Stop watching and start doing!” That was the nudge I needed—I began testing recipes, ordering tools, and diving into decorating.

That same year, Lá Cookie Rookie was born—a name that reflects my belief that no matter how far we’ve come, we’re always learning and growing. I approach each cookie as a new opportunity to get better, share joy, and create something meaningful (and delicious!).

When I’m not baking or piping details on sugar cookies, as an Early Childhood Educator with a heart for inclusion, advocacy, and lifelong learning. I’ve served as a teacher, mentor, director, and the proud owner of three preschools in the San Fernando Valley. I now operate a home-based daycare in Los Angeles and hold a Bachelor's in Human Services, a Master’s in Education, and am currently completing my Doctorate in Educational Leadership, with a dissertation focused on preschool classroom environments.

Outside the kitchen and classroom, I co-host a podcast called Chicas with Opinions with my sister, where we talk all things kids through the lens of early learning professionals.
